PETALING JAYA: The Immigration Department is conducting an investigation into what really happened between its officers and French researcher Sophe Lemiere in Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2.

In a statement on Wednesday (Jan 23), Immigration Department director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud confirmed that Lemiere's name had appeared in the Senarai Syak (Suspects List).

"The Immigration Department will give its full cooperation to the police. The Department will also be conducting an internal investigation into the case.

"I will ensure that the Immigration Department will always be professional in handling its duties and at the same time not compromise when it comes to the safety of the country," said Khairul.

Lemiere was allegedly stopped at the KLIA2 Immigration counter on Monday (Jan 21) with an officer saying that her name had been red-flagged.

It was earlier reported that Lemiere, author of 'Illusions of Democracy: Malaysian Politics and People', accused Immigration officers of bullying and intimidation upon her arrival.
