Talk of graft long before by-election, says MACC

IPOH: Even before nomination and campaigning started, allegations of corruption cropped up, reveals the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Perak MACC director Datuk Zainul Darus said they received information on offences allegedly committed under the Election Offences Act 1954.

“Among them include holding events where food and drinks are provided and giving contributions.

“The information was relayed to the MACC headquarters to see if there were elements of corruption,” he told a press conference here.

Zainul said due to logistics, the by-election would be monitored by Perak MACC.

“We will have operation centres in Ipoh and Cameron Highlands, both to open round-the-clock.

“There will also be MACC officers going undercover to monitor the by-election,” he said.

The operation centre in Cameron Highlands is located at CH Merlin Inn, Tanah Rata, and those with information can contact 019-600 2041.
