Bersatu poised to expand to Sabah amid Umno drama

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia is set to spread its wings to Sabah now that Sabah Umno is on the verge of collapse following the exodus of its key leaders led by chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor.

Sabah Umno is hardly standing now that nine out of its 10 assemblymen, five out of its six MPs and 22 out of 25 division chiefs have quit.

Although few words were said to indicate that they were heading to Bersatu, led by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, there seemed to be evidence that resigning Umno elected representatives and leaders would likely be part of a much talked about Bersatu Sabah chapter in the state.

Resigning Umno leaders told reporters privately that they would follow Hajiji’s direction and alluded to a strong possibility that the closing of the Umno chapter would help open Bersatu in Sabah by next month.
