IPOH: Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has been appointed as the new Perak Football Association (Pafa) president.
The unanimous decision was made during an emergency congress on Thursday (Dec 6) where he replaces Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim, who resigned on Nov 8.
On his appointment, Ahmad Faizal said it was a heavy responsibility and hoped that the Pafa committee members and other football associations in the state would help him make the Seladangs stronger each season.
"I am also confident that this position will not hinder my responsibility in governing the state.
"Each of us in Pafa have our responsibilities and as the president, I will work towards getting sponsorships for the team," he told reporters after a khatan programme at Taman Meru 2C here on Friday (Dec 7).
Ahmad Faizal also urged all district football associations to be more active in helping Pafa make the squad stronger.
"They have been given the opportunity to play a role and have a responsibility to help the state," he said, adding that his term will be until 2021.
"I want us to work together to maintain our momentum to achieve more success in the future," he added.
Hasnul Zulkarnain had resigned following an uproar over some "disrespectful" photographs of him with the Malaysia Cup trophy that went viral on social media.
State secretary Zainal Azman Abu Seman has been appointed as the deputy president while Datuk Adly Shah Ahmad Tah has been retained as the team manager.
