TMJ wins 50th polo championship in Argentina


JOHOR BARU: Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim made a winning return to polo when he clinched his 50th championship after winning the 22 Goal Ellerstina Cup in Argentina.

Having not played in any polo tournament for the last two-and-a -half years, Tunku Ismail did not lose his touch as he scored four goals as he led his team, Johor-Ellerstina to defeat Nova Java 11-9 in the final at Pilar in Buenos Aires on Saturday (Nov 30).

Tunku Ismail, who is also Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) owner, is the top scorer of the final and the overall top scorer of the tournament with 18 goals in four matches.

Tunku Ismail has previously won polo competitions in India (39 championships), Australia (6), Singapore (2) and Argentina (2).

The 22 Goal Ellerstina Cup is Tunku Ismail's 50th polo championship abroad.
