Seven detained over temple violence in Subang Jaya (updated)

KAJANG: Seven men have been arrested in connection with the scuffle at a temple in USJ25, Subang Jaya.

The incident, which occurred at about 2am on Monday (Nov 26), at the more than 100-year-old Sri Maha Mariamman temple, also saw 18 cars and two motorcycles burnt.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the suspects in their 30s, were picked up since early this morning.

"I want to stress that the incident has nothing to do with any racial issue.

"Those who are spreading that it is a racial issue online must stop immediately," he told a press conference in Semenyih here.

Some 700 police personnel, including those from the Federal Reserve Unit, have been deployed, he added.

"No one should take the law into their own hands.

"We will deal accordingly with those who break the law," he said.

The incident was believed to have happened following a scuffle between two rival groups on the site over the relocation of the temple.
