PETALING JAYA: Tabung Harapan Malaysia’s account will be closed on Dec 31 this year, says Lim Guan Eng.
The Finance Minister said the decision to close the collection for the fund was agreed upon during a Cabinet meeting.
On May 30, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad launched the fund to receive donations from the people in order to strengthen the government’s finances.
“Malaysians who wish to donate to the fund can still do so before Dec 31,” Lim said in a press statement.
He said the National Audit Department would carry out an audit to ensure the management of the fund was done with integrity and in an orderly manner.
As at 3pm yesterday, RM196,322,746.30 has been collected, consisting of donations from individuals, organisations and interest from fixed deposit investments managed by the department.
Lim said the fund would remain as a symbol of patriotism and loyalty of Malaysians, who were keen to see the country settle its debts.
“We want to thank all those who have donated and support the financial management of the country’s funds that is free of corruption,” he said.
