PORT DICKSON: It is important that Pakatan Harapan leaders do not campaign in the Oct 13 polls here in their respective capacities as ministers, says Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (pic).
"There is an agreement among cabinet members, that we come and campaign as either friends of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or as members of Pakatan Harapan.
"That is very critical, crucial and important because we want to set a new culture in Malaysia," he said to reporters when met at Pakatan's youth machinery for the Port Dickson by-election.
In walking the talk, Syed Saddiq arrived at the Pakatan youth machinery operations centre in his personal car without any security detail and police outriders, which all ministers are entitled to.
"I came down here as Pribumi Youth chief and I have given leave to my drivers and bodyguard. I even came down here with my own car.
"We must ensure that this by-election is different than the previous chapter. As the government and a political party, we are very conscious about this," he said.
Earlier on Friday (Oct 12), Election Reform Committee (ERC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said that it was inappropriate for party leaders to campaign in the Port Dickson by-election in their capacities as ministers.
He pointed out that Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail should instead campaign as a PKR incumbent president in the Oct 13 polls, rather than in her capacity as a deputy prime minister.
The Port Dickson by-election will see a seven-cornered fight between Pakatan, PAS and five other independent candidates.
