KUALA LUMPUR: Lim Guan Eng (pic) should be named the 'best finance minister in the world' for claiming the economy has been restored within just four months of Pakatan Harapan taking over the federal government, says Umno youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
He said the Finance Minister once claimed the country was going bankrupt but later made a U-turn and said the economy had returned to normal.
"That is pelik bin ajaib (literally 'weird son of magical'). What spell is he using that allows the status of the country, which was allegedly going bankrupt, to improve within such a short period of time?" he said to cheers from delegates in his opening address for the youth wing at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) on Saturday.
On May 28, Lim said the country's economy remained strong with solid fundamentals even though there was a need to improve the current fiscal conditions.
Prior to that on May 22, the Finance Minister said Malaysia's debt had risen to above RM1tril.
"I think it's fair to name him the best finance minister in the world as something like this has never happened in the history of any country – to be able to improve their economy within just four months," he said.
