Chemist charged for possession of 27kg of drugs in Penang


BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 46-year-old chemist has been charged for possession of 27kg of methamphetamine in a factory.

Lee Wooi Keong, 46, was charged with having possession of the illegal drugs in a factory building at the small medium industrial zone in Bukit Tengah here at about 3am on Sept 12.

No plea was recorded, as Magistrate Diannee Ningrad Nor Azhar postponed the case to Nov 22, pending a chemistry report.

Lee was also denied bail.

DPP Nur Afiqah Zakaria prosecuted.

Last week, Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department busted the illegal drug factory and recorded its largest seizure to date since the department’s inception 22 years ago.

RM72.5mil worth of drugs and equipment were seized from the factory, following the arrest of three local suspects in Perak, where one of them is Lee.

Two other suspects have been released on police bail.
