Journey beyond race and religion for father and son

KANGAR: The Malaysia Day celebration this year is more meaningful for a father-and-son team, as they managed to complete their 1,600km Johor-to-Perlis walk.

What made it all the more significant was that the Love My Malaysia Merdeka Expedition by R. Ragu, 43, and his 13-year-old son R. Surya received support from many Malaysians.

“Malaysians, regardless of race, demonstrated their heartfelt appreciation for our effort.

“There were some locals who invited us for meals and helped to pay for our accommodation.

“We also received some contributions from the public to help us complete the expedition, which cost a total of RM21,000,” Ragu told reporters after successfully completing the expedition here yesterday.

On hand to welcome them was Indera Kayangan assemblyman Gan Ay Ling.

Ragu, who is from Ipoh, also plans to carry out the expedition next year and has invited youngsters to join him for the walk. — Bernama
