PAS muktamar kicks off with Umno leaders in attendance

KUALA TERENGGANU: The 64th annual PAS Muktamar, or general assembly, has kicked off in grand fashion at the Gong Badak Sports Complex indoor stadium here.

Adding to the excitement is the presence of Umno leaders, led by its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The assembly began with a procession steeped in protocol, led by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and the Mursyidul Am (spiritual leader) Datuk Hashim Jasin.

This was followed by the singing of the Negaraku and the PAS anthem, Berjihadlah.

Top on the agenda is Abdul Hadi's keynote address, which will be delivered in the morning.

Leaders of other parties spotted at the muktamar included MIC deputy president Datuk Seri SK Devamany, Parti Cinta Malaysia vice president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

The four-day muktamar event began with the Ulama and the Youth assemblies on Thursday.
