Stop political appointments in public varsities, says academic group

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Academic Movement (MOVE) has slammed Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik's (pic) appointment as IIUM president, stressing that it goes against the government's commitment to free university management from political appointees.

"Putting a stop to political appointments in public universities is crucial in bringing back academic freedom to Malaysia," MOVE exco, also known as Pergerakan Tenaga Akademik Malaysia (GERAK), said in a statement Friday (Sept 7).
