Construction worker charged with murdering friend who refused to join drinking session

MIRI: A construction worker has been charged at the magistrate's court here with the alleged murder of his friend on Monday (Sept 3).

Jack Reong, 39, was accused of beating to death his friend Mingu Nanggai, 45, after the latter refused to take part in a drinking session with him.

No plea was taken from the accused and magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa fixed Oct 10 for mention.

According to the charge sheet, Reong had gone to the victim's house on May 29, 2015, and invited him for a drinking session. When Mingu declined, Reong subsequently punched, kicked and assaulted him with a wooden object.

The next day, Mingu's wife found him dead in the house, bleeding from the mouth and nose.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The accused was denied bail, as murder is a non-bailable offence.
