PETALING JAYA: Fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho has vowed not to submit to Malaysian courts after being slapped with criminal charges along with his father over money allegedly stolen from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
A spokesman for Low – also known as Jho Low – through his attorneys, issued a statement saying it was impossible for him to get a fair trial in Malaysia.
The statement said he was conferring with his lawyers regarding what legal action he could take to address the charges against him.
“But he stands by his earlier statements: He will not submit to any jurisdiction where guilt has been predetermined by politics and self-interest overrules legal process,” the statement said.
It claimed the charges were designed to distract from the Malaysian authorities’ seizure of the Equanimity superyacht and to auction it without verifying ownership of the vessel through proper legal process.
“Mr Low and his lawyers request that the public keep an open mind until all the evidence comes to light. This has been a case of ‘trial by media’ from the start and unfortunately, the circus continues,” it said.
