KUALA LUMPUR: There is no evidence to support claims that Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi possessed RM230mil in assets, says Datuk Liew Vui Keong.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) would investigate if there was any element of wrongdoing under its jurisdiction against the former deputy prime minister.

"There is no statement or evidence that supports the existence of this money.

"The MACC would investigate if there is solid information or evidence," said Liew in a written reply to Ramkarpal Singh (PH-Bukit Gelugor).

Ramkarpal had asked if the Government would investigate allegations on assets worth RM230mil allegedly owned by Dr Ahmad Zahid.

In August last year, Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk MP, offered himself to be investigated by the MACC over allegations that he had RM230mil when he was in Umno Youth.

The claims were first made by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
