PETALING JAYA: AirAsia has been named the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for the 10th time in a row at the 2018 Skytrax World Airline Awards.
In a statement, AirAsia co-founder and AirAsia Group Berhad executive chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun said he was honoured to celebrate the airline’s record-breaking 10th win.
“This moment feels surreal.
“I remember the ecstatic feeling of being named the world’s best low-cost airline for the very first time 10 years ago.
“I would have never imagined we would remain the world’s best for a decade. Thank you for your tremendous love and support.
“We will continue to champion low fares and, hopefully, transform many more lives in the process,” he said yesterday.
The awards, dubbed the “Oscars of the Aviation Industry”, is the global benchmark of airline excellence, with over 20.36 million customers surveyed worldwide, measuring standards across 49 key performance indicators of an airline’s frontline products and services.
Kamarudin accepted the award together with four of its long-serving Allstars staff at The Langham, London, yesterday.
AirAsia X, AirAsia’s long-haul sister airline, bagged the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline Premium Cabin for the sixth consecutive year, and it also took home Asia’s Best Low-Cost Airline award.
AirAsia X chairman Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, who received the award, said any success and achievement by the AirAsia Group and AirAsia X was a direct contribution and value added by each of its Allstar staff members.
“As such, it is important that levels of competency, efficiency and performance be continuously enhanced and upgraded so that the companies will be able to maintain their world-class status in the highly competitive regional and global aviation industry,” she said.
As part of the victory celebration, AirAsia will be offering low fares on July 23 to 29 on www.airasia.com and its mobile app.
The statement added that passengers would also stand a chance to win one year of free flights by participating in its #WeAreAllChampions social media contest.
