Indonesian cops arrested Jamal Yunos while he was getting a haircut

PETALING JAYA: Fugitive politician Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos was arrested by Indonesian authorities while he was having a haircut at a salon located in South Jakarta, Astro Awani reported.  

Quoting sources, it said that Jamal, 48, was hiding in several locations before he was nabbed at 6.15pm on Monday (July 2) by the Indonesian National Police (POLRI).  

“Jamal was believed to be hiding in Medan in North Sumatra, before he moved to South Jakarta to avoid being detected by authorities.  

“He was also believed to have used the sea route to get to Medan,” it reported.  

On Monday (July 2), Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the Malaysian police had been contacted to extradite the Red Shirts leader back to Malaysia.  

Jamal is currently being investigated for at least six offences, including creating public nuisance by breaking bottles of alcohol to protest the Better Beer Festival at the Selangor state secretariat building on Oct 5 last year.   

The police launched a manhunt for Jamal after he was found missing from his ward at the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital on May 25.   

An arrest warrant for him was issued on June 1 for the offence of escaping or resisting police custody.
