Unisem contributes RM500,000 to Tabung Harapan Malaysia

IPOH: Chipmaker Unisem has become the latest Perak-based company to donate to Tabung Harapan Malaysia.

Led by its chairman and group managing director John Chia Sin Tet, the company donated RM500,000 to the funds.

Perak Mentri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu received the funds on behalf of the Government.

He said he felt touched and was thankful for the kind effort by Unisem and other companies that have contributed.

"Unisem has been around in Perak for 25 years and employs over 4,000 staff.

"We are truly thankful and I believe more private firms are coming forward to contribute towards helping the Government's cause.

"We welcome such efforts by companies and individuals," he said when met after the cheque presentation at the state secretariat building here Tuesday (June 26).

Chia, when met, also said that the company was glad to contribute towards lessening the national debt.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced the setting up of the fund on May 30 for Malaysians to contribute towards reducing the country's debts, which currently stood at RM1 trillion.

As at 3pm Tuesday, over RM126mil has been collected.
