KUALA LUMPUR: A large crowd protested at Istana Negara against certain quarters, including Datuk A Kadir Jasin, for "disrespecting" the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The protesters, who were from various non-governmental organisations (NGOs), gathered at the front gate of the King's palace here, wearing light green T-shirts with the words "Daulat Tuanku" written on them.
They also brought along placards to show support to the King, Sultan Muhammad V, and chanted "Daulat Tuanku" at the main gate.
One placard read: "We reject the insulting of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers." Other placards condemned Kadir for being "rude".
"We want to defend Tuanku (the King). Recently there have been many issues related to the Palace. Some quarters are not respecting our King," one protester, Ajwad Yusof, told The Star before the group marched to the entrance of the palace.
"We came from all across the nation," he said, adding that the protesters began gathering at the car park outside the palace at about 12pm.
On June 9, Kadir resigned as Media and Communications head of the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP).
Kadir came under fire for his recent views on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The veteran newsman, who is also a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia supreme council member, said in his personal blog post, that some RM257mil was spent for the upkeep and personal expenditure of Sultan Muhammad V in the 16 months since he became the King.
His blog post was also criticised by PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who said, "While I support democracy and freedom of expression, what was said was inappropriate."
