Outgoing Selangor MB praises civil servants, announces one-month Raya bonus

SHAH ALAM: Outgoing Selangor Mentri Besar Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali praised the civil servants for their hard work and dedication under his tenure, and has announced a bonus for them.

At his final meeting with state civil servants at the state secretariat Monday, he also announced one month’s salary as a special Hari Raya payment for the state’s 17,109 civil servants.

In his speech, Azmin reminded the state's civil servants to continue working hard for Selangor.

He praised the civil servants for their hard work and dedication under his tenure, which saw the state's revenue collection surpassing the targeted RM 2.55bil and achieving RM 2.81bil for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2017.

“I also congratulate you for reducing the deficit from an estimated RM900mil to just RM408mil.

“This proves that the state government has held on to the principle of responsible spending and avoided wastage,” said Azmin.

He also said Selangor and its civil servants will always be held close to his heart and recited a sonnet from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, where Brutus tells his wife Portia, “you are as dear to me as the ruddy drops, that visit my sad heart”, to describe his feelings.

He said officers in the Grade 44 and above categories have also agreed to donate 10% of their windfall to the Tabung Harapan fund set up to help the Government counter national debts.

Azmin was given a rock star send-off by state civil servants attending the event.

He was mobbed as they clambered to take their photos with him.

Earlier in his speech, state Finance Officer Datuk Nor Azmie Diron said it was sad that Selangor was losing its valuable asset who had built the state successfully over the last four years.
