Beware of fake MACC phone calls

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has cautioned the public to be wary and not fall prey to dubious telephone calls claiming to be from the commission and asking for personal details, including classified information.

“Following this, the MACC has received numerous complaints from those who had fallen prey to fake calls,” it said in a statement on Monday (June 4).

It advised those who were harassed by such calls to first obtain verification from the nearest MACC office based on the telephone numbers and addresses listed on the commission's official website at www.sprm.gov.my.

The MACC said that it will lodge a police report on the matter and hopes the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) investigates the fake calls which have tarnished the image and reputation of the Commission. - Bernama
