6-year-old boy found drowned after boat capsizes


MIRI: A six-year-old boy was found drowned in Sg Sepencur near the Rumah Nanga Ensering longhouse in the remote Julau district in central Sarawak on Saturday morning.

Kelvin Markus, a Year One pupil, was reported missing at 7am on Friday (May 25) with two relatives when the boat they were in capsized after being hit by strong waves.

The two others – his aunty Lenny Ingang, 46, was found drowned at 12.30pm on Friday, while female relative Ebilina Linty, 23, is still missing.

The State Fire and Rescue Department in its latest report said the search and rescue operation to locate Ebilina continues.

The bodies of the recovered victims have been handed over to the police.

The incident in the river occurred when the trio were travelling to their longhouse.

They were about 50m from the longhouse jetty along the riverbank when their boat capsized.
