KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (pic) had advised the former prime minister to investigate the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue, knowing that it could cost him his job.
Shafie said he spoke to Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak when he was still in the federal ministry when the issue became serious.
"I did it for the country, I did not care if I lost my post in the ministry or my job altogether because I felt that the matter should be investigated," he said after an event here on Wednesday.
Shafie and newly sworn in Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyddin Yassin was among the few people who had voiced out about the 1MDB issue, where billions of dollars were allegedly stolen from the state fund.
Newly-appointed Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull had thanked Shafie and those who supported the MACC during the probe when no one else would.
Shukri and several others involved in the probe were subsequently sacked or asked to retire early just as their investigation reached its final stage.
