PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos has been arrested for displaying his firearm in a picture that has gone viral.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the Sungai Besar Umno division leader was detained at about 1.15pm at the Ampang Puteri Hospital in Ampang.
“He has been arrested in connection with a case being investigated under Section 34 of the Firearms Act 1960,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Section 34 refers to carrying a firearm while drunk or in a disorderly manner. The offence carries a maximum one year jail term, maximum RM2,000 fine or both.
“We received a report over the case on May 12,” said Comm Mazlan
“The suspect is currently in police custody while he receives treatment at the hospital,” he said.
Comm Mazlan added the suspect was involved in several others cases which are still being investigated.
“There are also two arrest warrants which we will serve on the suspect once he completes his medical treatment,” he said.
