Sarawak Report editor happy to be back in Malaysia

PETALING JAYA: Clare Rewcastle-Brown is back in Malaysia following the fall of the Barisan Nasional government.

The Sarawak Report editor, who was declared persona non grata by the previous regime, went through Malaysian immigration without a hitch, reported an online portal.

“I had a really smooth arrival. My heart went a little bit faster (at this juncture, she taps palm against her chest) at immigration, but everyone was very nice as ever.

“Obviously I had no problem, so that was great,” she told the news portal upon arriving at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Friday.

Rewcastle-Brown had been wanted by police following an arrest warrant issued by Bukit Aman since 2015 for allegedly committing offences detrimental to parliamentary democracy, and spreading false reports and statements to cause public alarm.

She told the news portal that she had spoken to a few friends who had assured her that the charges are being dropped.

Rewcastle-Brown added that she was in the country for personal reasons and to meet up with friends.

It was reported on Friday that the Sarawak Report website’s ban had been lifted after almost two years of being blocked in Malaysia.
