PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says Pakatan Harapan is willing to accept leaders from Barisan Nasional, but this will be on a case-by-case basis.

He said that certain leaders in the previous government had no choice but to follow orders.

"If they pledge their allegiance (to Pakatan) and are freed from charges, (if they) are thinking of joining any of the (Pakatan) parties or to be independents while supporting the parties, we will accept them," he said during a press conference on Saturday (May 12).

He added that each case will be studied on an individual basis to determine the level of involvement.

Dr Mahathir was asked if accepting Barisan leaders constituted a betrayal to the people who voted them out.

When asked if any of the politicians who jumped ship could be appointed ministers, Dr Mahathir said, "there are lots of possibilities but (we) can't determine".

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had claimed that several Umno parliamentarians had contacted the party about the possibility of defecting.

"We are hoping that there will be more Opposition MPs coming in," he had said on Friday (May 11).
