Labis may get new youth training centre, says Chua Tee Yong

LABIS: The youth of Labis can expect to gain better access to skills training in the near future.

Incumbent Labis MP Datuk Chua Tee Yong said the Government has agreed to consider building an Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara (IKBN) or Skills Training for Youth Institute in the constituency.

He said the state assemblymen from Bekok and Tenang (which are part of the Labis parliamentary seat) would be tasked to identity a suitable plot of land for the institute.

"The institute is expected to stimulate the local economy and provide economic opportunities for the people in Labis," said Chua of IKBN, explaining one of the four points of his GE14 manifesto covering the economy, tourism, infrastructure and a harmonious Bangsa Johor.

Chua, the two-term Barisan Nasional Labis MP is defending his seat from Pakatan Harapan's Pang Hok Liong and Sarchu Sawai from PAS.

The two state seats under Labis are Tenang and Bekok.

Barisan's incumbent Tenang assembyman Mohd Azahar Ibrahim is facing two contenders - Mohd Solihan Badri (Pakatan) and Nasharudin Awang(PAS).

Barisan's Tan Chong and Pakatan's Ramakrishnan Suppiah is in a straight fight for Bekok.

On tourism, Chua said he would strive to step up cooperation between the state and federal governments for a holistic development of tourism in Labis.

On infrastructure, Chua pledged to monitor the construction of the RM92mil road from Chaah in Labis to Kampung Kwong Sai in Segamat. Construction began in January this year.

Another road construction being monitored is the RM16mil stretch from Kampung Sawah Bahru to Jalan JB-Seremban, Bukit Mambai and Tenang Station, he added.

Chua said the upgrading of the train stations - Bekok and Labis- under the Double Track Electric Train project would also be monitored closely.

He said projects to improve drainage to prevent floods were ongoing and that he would monitor the implementation.

Chua also listed the development which he and his team had brought to Labis in the last decade; including a RM5mil mini stadium, RM20mil Klinik Kesihatan Labis, RM22mil secondary school, SM Seri Bali in Chaah.
