Dept: Plan trip from Singapore to avoid congestion

JOHOR BARU: Malaysians in Singapore planning to return home and cast their votes on May 9 have been advised to plan their trip properly.

This was to avoid congestion at peak hours, Johor Immigration Department director Datuk Rohaizi Bahari said, adding that commuters should follow traffic rules at both checkpoints.

“We will make sure that all counters at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs Immigration and Quaran-tine Complex (BSI) here and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) in Tanjung Kupang will remain open,” he said yesterday.

BSI has 77 counters for cars (39 for entry and 38 exit), 100 counters for motorcycles (50 entry and 50 exit) while KSAB has 48 counters for cars and 50 for motorcycles.

Rohaizi urged vehicle owners to ensure they had enough balance in their Touch ’n Go cards.

He also dispelled claims that there were almost 500,000 Malaysians who travelled between Malaysia and Singapore on a daily basis.

“Based on our records, there is an average of 100,000 travellers going through BSI and KSAB daily,” he said.
