TEMERLOH: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) will field its secretary-general Anuar Tahir (pic) to contest the Temerloh parliamentary seat.
In announcing Anuar's candidacy at a ceramah here, Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad also announced the 11 Amanah candidates who will contest state seats in Pahang.
Earlier in a press conference, Pahang Amanah chairman Dr Hamzah Jaafar said Anuar, 65, was a strong social activist and a well-known national political figure.
In the last general election, the Temerloh seat was won by Nasrudin Hassan of PAS (then in Pakatan Rakyat) by a majority of 1,070 votes against Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, who then contested under the Barisan Nasional banner.
Saifuddin left Umno to join PKR in 2015 and now serves as Pakatan Harapan secretariat chief. Nasrudin and PAS is now considered unfriendly to Pakatan.
Dr Hamzah said he himself would vie for the Dong seat in Raub and retired school principal Norhaizan Abu Hasan would go up against Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob in Pelangai.
Dr Hamzah believed Norhaizan, 58, who was born and raised in Pelangai, could cause an upset.
"Even though Pahang is an Umno stronghold, we believe there will be a tsunami because the mood of the people in the state is changing," he said.
The other candidates for Amanah are Syed Hamid Syed Mohamed (Semantan), Dr Jamaluddin Abd Rahim (Pulau Tawar), Ahmad Sazili Mohd Nor (Tioman), Zulkifli Mohamed (Beserah), Nur Addin Ibrahim (Lepar), Sabrina Md Yusoff (Tanjung Lumpur), Jelani Ludin (Jengka), Adnan Abdul Manaf (Kerdau) and Ahmad Majdi Fauzi Abd Aziz (Guai).
When asked about contesting under the PKR logo, Dr Hamzah said that it was another factor that will aid their success in GE14.
