GEORGE TOWN: Penang Barisan chairman Teng Chang Yeow has taken the DAP to task for targeting capable leaders from MCA and Gerakan in the general election.
"Is politics all about eliminating your opponents?
"At the end of the day, it is the community who will be at the receiving end.
"I do not think you can see this kind of culture from Barisan component parties," he said during the party's 50th anniversary celebrations at the state Gerakan headquarters in Macalister Road on Saturday (March 24).
He was responding to reports that DAP big guns have been slated to take on MCA and Gerakan leaders in the general election.
DAP had announced that its Johor chief Liew Chin Tong would take on MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong in the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat.
Its Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming has also been widely tipped to contest against Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong in the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat.
On the RM13,448 fine imposed by Penang Island City Council against Penang Gerakan for putting up posters criticising Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Teng said he would wait for the council to send the summons.
It was reported on Wednesday (March 21) that Penang Barisan had put up the posters in places such as George Town, Ayer Itam, Pulau Tikus and Bayan Lepas.
The poster featured Lim with the backdrop of cars stuck in floods and a cleared hillslope.
It appeared in various languages, with words like "Boasting Pakatan Harapan; 10 years; 51 empty promises" and "Da Pao" in Mandarin, which literally means boastful.
