KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police, in cooperation with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will preside over the international drug enforcement conference Far East Regional Working Group (IDEC-FERWG) meeting in a bid to fight international drug trafficking.
Bukit Aman narcotics criminal investigation department deputy director (intelligence/operations) Datuk Kang Chez Chiang said the two-day meeting starting Tuesday will have 78 representatives of drug control agencies from 17 countries across the Far East region attending.
"This meeting has a primary objective to update member countries on progress to the investigation made against the established targets, introduction of new targets and to discuss any emerging threats in the region.
"Delegates will also discuss regional and global drug trafficking trends, cooperation between different countries police forces and coordinating work when carrying out joint operations," Kang said in a statement Tuesday.
Kang said member countries would deliberate and develop the presentation that would be provided to the full IDEC in Rotterdam this coming April, which will be co-chaired by Kang and the DEA's Far East regional director Jesse R. Fong. – Bernama
