PETALING JAYA: International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) lecturer and terrorism researcher Dr Maszlee Malik has officially joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia as a lifetime member.

The academician’s membership was announced by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at a press conference here Monday.

Dr Maszlee, a 44-year-old Johor native, has served in several think-tanks and was featured in forums concerning the Arab Spring, Islam, and Middle Eastern politics.

On why he chose to join Pribumi and not other Pakatan Harapan component parties, Dr Maszlee said it did not matter as long as it was not Barisan Nasional.

On March 1, former Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (Ideas) chief executive officer Wan Saiful Wan Jan also joined Pribumi.
