Wee: Probe all parties whoever they may be

PETALING JAYA: Anti-graft officers should conduct their probe into the Penang undersea tunnel project in a professional manner and investigate those involved regardless of their background, said Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

“I have been consistent. Whoever MACC called – whether an exco member from Penang or an Umno leader – this is the prerogative and jurisdiction of MACC. I have never said a word or interfered,” he said via Facebook Live.

MACC is the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

His response came after Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy questioned the silence of Barisan leaders on the allegation that Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim had been paid RM3mil for consultancy work on the tunnel project.

“Why is Wee not responding with the same kind of fervour and energy that he did when he queried the Penang government over the undersea tunnel project?” Ramasamy was quoted as saying by an online news portal.

Abdul Azeez has since denied the claim that he had dealings with Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd, the special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the RM6.3bil project.

Dr Wee said Dr Ramasamy or Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng should answer all the questions he had raised earlier.

“Are the questions really so difficult to answer that no one from the entire Penang government or DAP is able to answer for almost two weeks?

“Don’t accuse me of having a tail between my legs when you all have been hiding from my questions for the past two weeks,” he added.
