SHAH ALAM: They robbed the same goldsmith shop twice in the span of three months and looted almost RM2mil but police caught up to the robbers and their men on the inside.
A total of 11 men, including an assistant manager and a salesman at the shop in a Hypermarket at Kota Damansara were nabbed a day after the second heist on Thursday.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the group first robbed the shop in November last year and ran off with RM1.1mil worth of gold jewellery.
“The second time on Thursday, they carted off RM720,000 in jewellery,” he said to a press conference at state police headquarters on Tuesday (Feb 13).
Police first arrested two members of the group and seized the car they were travelling in, which was later confirmed to be the getaway vehicle at around 11pm on Friday.
That led police to arrest nine more members of the group throughout the Klang Valley.
A Smith and Wesson revolver with four bullets and a casing was seized in the arrests.
The mastermind, 25, turned out to be a salesman at the shop and was found to also be wanted for a cheating case.
He was off on the day of the robbery.
Police believe that the salesman, who had been working there for five years, had been planning the heists for a while.
It is believed the assistant manager aided in the robbery.
Around RM300,000 worth of jewellery and RM33,420 in cash was recovered.
Police are investigating the whereabouts of the rest of the loot which is believed to have been sold off.
The group, aged 22 to 30, have been remanded until Feb 16.
