PORT DICKSON: Police have obtained a seven-day remand order against a couple over the death of the man's nine-year-old daughter.
The 38-year-old suspect and his 34-year-old wife, who is the girl's stepmother, were brought to the magistrate's court at 9.15am Friday.
The order was signed by magistrate Siti Khairiah Abd Razak following an application by investigating officer Insp Mahafiz Mat Lawi.
The duo were arrested for allegedly abusing the victim, who died early Thursday (Feb 1), after a post-mortem showed severe injuries to her internal organs, including the kidney and intestines. There were also fractures in her ribs.
The case is being investigated for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Port Dickson OCPD Supt Zainudin Ahmad said doctors found swellings on the body of the girl which indicated possible abuse.
He said the suspect, who is an army personnel, brought the girl to the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban just before midnight on Wednesday (Jan 31) after he claimed to have found her unconscious at their home in Taman Vista Jaya in Lukut.
"The suspect said he tried performing CPR on the victim when he found her unconscious but she did not respond.
"He then rushed her to Seremban where doctors pronounced her dead an hour later," he said.
