MACC raids seven offices in Penang in undersea tunnel probe

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has raided the premises of four state government agencies and three companies in Penang in relation to the state’s proposed undersea tunnel project.

Sources familiar with the investigation said the anti-graft agency raided the offices of the Penang Public Works Department, Penang State Secretary, the Penang Office of Lands and Mines and the Penang Valuation and Property Services Department.

The three other companies raided were property development and construction companies.

It is believed that the raid was following a report lodged by Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) vice-president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan in July, which was followed up by another report at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on Friday (Jan 5).

He handed over several documents to the MACC, which he claimed contained fresh evidence of alleged corruption in the controversial undersea tunnel project.
