KUANTAN: The late Lepar assemblyman, Datuk Mohd Shohaimi Jusoh, wanted to have a chat with friends at a stall near his house the night before his sudden passing.

Paya Besar MP Datuk Seri Abdul Manan Ismail said Mohd Shohaimi, however, postponed the chat to another day.

He said he was shocked to hear of Mohd Shohaimi’s passing as they had last met on Friday during a “Back to School” programme organised by the Felda Foundation in Paya Besar.

“He did not seem to be ill at that time, although he had a fever a few days earlier.

“I only knew that he was a diabetic,” said Abdul Manan, adding that he was informed of the death by Mohd Shohaimi’s officer.

Mohd Shohaimi died at his home in Sungai Isap Damai, Kuantan, at about 3.30am yesterday. He was 55.

Lepar is one of the three state seats within the Paya Besar parliamentary constituency.

Abdul Manan said Mohd Shohaimi’s remains were taken to the Sungai Isap Mosque for the funeral rites before burial at the Kampung Sri Fajar Muslim Cemetery in Gambang.

Mohd Shohaimi leaves behind wife Datin Rohaizan Yatim, 52, and six children aged between 15 and 26.

The Regent of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, and the Tengku Puan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, paid their last respects.

Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, state executive councillors, state assemblymen and heads of department in Pahang also paid their last respects.

On Twitter, both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his deputy Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed their condolences to Mohd Shohaimi’s family.

Describing Mohd Shohaimi as a person who had discharged his duties with dedication, Najib wrote: “My condolences to the family of Datuk Mohd Shohaimi Jusoh who passed away this morning. May his soul be blessed. Al-Fatihah.”

Dr Ahmad Zahid posted: “May his soul be blessed by Allah. My condolences to the family. Al Fatihah.” — Bernama
