Police still waiting for full post mortem report on Dutch model's death

PETALING JAYA: The death of Dutch model Ivana Esther Robert Smit is still classified as sudden death, pending a full post mortem report from Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Lazim said statements had been taken from 48 people and police have studied CCTV footage of Smit's movements in the course of the investigation.

He urged the public not to speculate on the case and to contact the police if they have any information.

"Anyone with information can contact investigating officer Asst Supt Faizal Abdullah at 012-4834439/03-2600222 or Deputy Supt M. Gunalan at 019-3114418," he said.

Smit fell to her death from a 20th floor apartment in Jalan Dang Wangi on Dec 7.

It is believed that the 19-year-old was in the apartment with a couple – an American man and his Kazakh wife – after spending a night out with them.

The couple retired to the bedroom while Smit slept in the living room. She was found on the balcony on the sixth floor the next morning.

Smit's father, Marcel, has disputed the police's version of her death.

He told the NL Times in the Netherlands that he believed his daughter was pushed from the apartment.

He claimed there were bruises on his daughter's neck, showing that someone had grabbed her.
