Zaid can go back to Kelantan, says Selangor Sultan

PETALING JAYA: Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has handed a royal rebuke to DAP’s Zaid Ibrahim, describing the latter as biadap (uncouth).

The Selangor Ruler did not mince his words when he expressed his displeasure at the former Cabinet minister and ex-Kota Baru MP for tweeting that the Ruler should be careful with what he said.

Sultan Sharafuddin said Zaid should have read his statement carefully to get the facts right before opening his mouth.

“He lives in Selangor, but he can go back to Kelantan if he does not agree, build a big house and help the Kelantan people. Do not look for sustenance in Selangor,” Sultan Sharafuddin said.

“I am aware that Zaid has been making false and inaccurate comments against me from long ago.

“He is a politician and former minister and I understand that he has long been intensely against the royal institution.”

The displeased Ruler, who was speaking to Utusan Malaysia in an interview conducted by its top editors on Wednesday, continued: “My advice to Zaid is simple, do not forget where you come from.”

Zaid’s tweet on Wednesday was believed to have been in response to the Sultan’s exclusive interview with The Star published a day ­earlier, in which he warned that the deliberate use of sensitive issues to fish for votes in the general election would destroy the country.

The Sultan had stressed that he did not wish to see politicians playing with issues of race, religion and other sensitivities for political gain.

In the same interview, he also hit out at former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for alluding to the Bugis community as pirates.

Sultan Sharafuddin had said that Dr Mahathir was a person with deep hatred within him, and that “his anger will burn the whole country”.

Zaid tweeted that no one will be spared if the country went up in flames.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Zaid could be investigated under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for showing disrespect to the Sultan.
