Cops arrest foreigner, seize 17kg drugs in hotel room

IPOH: Police have arrested a foreign national and seized 17kg worth of methamphetamine in a hotel room in Sungai Siput.

Perak Narcotics chief Asst Comm R. Ravi Chandran said that after having received a tip-off, a team of policemen stormed into the hotel room on Nov 28 at about 11.30pm.

"We found 15 plastic bags, packed as Chinese tea, in a box in the room.

"The drugs have a market value of about RM1.2mil," he told a press conference here on Thursday.

ACP Ravi Chandran said the foreigner was unemployed and did not have any criminal record.

"The man also tested negative for drugs and will be remanded until Dec 5 for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act," he said.
