KOTA KINABALU: It was a regular outing to a shopping mall for a family of four until the teenage daughter complained of abdominal pains and gave birth in the toilet.

When the 15-year-old was a long time coming out of the toilet, the concerned mother went to check and was shocked to see the girl holding a blood soaked baby in her hands.

Her father and younger brother were left walking around the mall during the incident which happened at about 4.30pm yesterday.

Both parents apparently had no idea that their daughter was pregnant.

Penampang police chief Supt Rosley Hobden said the teenager and her newborn baby girl have been warded at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

He said the parents rushed her to the hospital before reporting the incident to police.

The teenager told police that she had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old boy who then broke off with her five months ago.

They reportedly had sex at the girl’s home in Penampang.

Supt Rosley said police are tracking down the ex-boyfriend and that the case would be classified as statutory rape.
