KUALA LUMPUR: Umno does not sanction Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos' beer-smashing stunt, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic).
"We do not sanction his actions," said the Deputy Prime Minister at a press conference here on Friday.
Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno acting deputy president, was referring to Jamal's antics outside the Selangor state secretariat building on Thursday.
He said that Jamal was also the chairman of other NGOs, apart from his role as Sungai Besar Umno division chief.
"He is one of 191 Umno division chiefs. The other 190 don't smash anything," he said.
Jamal had arrived at the Selangor state secretariat building at about 10am on Thursday, with some 20 supporters and a pickup truck filled with crates of beer, only to find the gates closed.
The Red Shirts leader then proceeded to smash several crates of beer with a sledgehammer outside the gates.
Jamal was arrested together with seven other individuals early Friday.
