PM extends condolences to family

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said justice would be done and stern action taken over the death of T. Nhaveen, 18, who was brutally assaulted by a group of youths in Jalan Kaki Bukit, Bukit Gelugor, last Saturday.

The teenager passed away at Penang Hospital yesterday evening.

Upset by Nhaveen’s death, Najib extended his condolences to the teenager’s family.

“Saddened to receive news of the passing of T. Nhaveen. Condolences to the family. Justice and stern action will be taken against his assailants,” he said in a Twitter post yesterday.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron extended his deepest condolences to Nhaveen’s family.

Idris, who is now in Mecca, sent his condolences via a card to the family soon after hearing of the teenager’s death.

“May your soul rest in peace, my son,” reads the Chief Minister’s message on a wreath that will be sent to the family today.

Just hours before Nhaveen died, his idol, Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman, sent him a message on Twitter praying for his recovery.

“Dear Nhaveen, prayers & love for a speedy recovery. Let all acts of savagery end & people come to senses. Peace!” the Indian composer said in a tweet accompanied by a screenshot of a news item on the battered teenager.
