Senior citizen who went missing from Menggatal home found safe

KOTA KINABALU: A senior citizen suffering from mental health problems who was reported missing in Menggatal on Wednesday, has been found safe.

The 67-year-old who was last seen walking aimlessly on Nov 3, prior to being reported missing, was found weak with minor injuries on his body in some bushes at Kg Pulutan Membawang, some 15km from here, on Thursday evening.

Lintas Fire and Rescue Station chief Noor Sherriyana Bohari said prior to that, they had received a distress call from the man’s family, saying he had not returned home since Tuesday.

She said they told them that the elderly man was last seen looking confused and unwell at around 4.30pm by the roadside of the village.

“When our team arrived at the scene, a search operation was mounted within 1km radius from where he was last seen, that includes at a cemetery, chicken coop and banana farm areas,” she said.

Noor Sherriyana said they had to put a halt to the operation at 8pm and continue the next day, bringing in villagers and the K9 unit but on a larger search radius.

The man was finally found weak with some light injuries at a bushy area at around 2.20pm, about 1.2km from where he was last seen.

“The victim was given preliminary treatment before he was taken to the hospital for further treatment and evaluation,” she said, adding that operations on site ended at 3.30pm
