PETALING JAYA: DAP strongman Lim Guan Eng has never made a strong move to oppose the proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act, said an MCA Youth leader.
The DAP secretary-general instead relied on his tactic of attacking Barisan Nasional component parties for not doing enough to stop the passing of the proposed amendments, said MCA Youth Young Professionals Bureau and Varsity Students Affairs Bureau chairman Eric Choo Wei Sern.
“Lim and his father (Lim Kit Siang) have both speculated that the amendments proposed by (PAS president) Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang would have become the Government’s Bill, and urged presidents of Barisan component parties to resign should it become a Government Bill.
“Now that Barisan has made a stand through the spirit of consensus, Lim is again speculating if the Bill will be given priority and thus be passed in Parliament,” Choo said.
He said Lim’s past comments of “let it pass first” could also be interpreted as a tacit support for Abdul Hadi.
“That may be his position in the hope of wooing PAS back into the partnership.”
