Rapper SonaOne wins AIM Best English Song award for second time

KUALA LUMPUR: Rapper SonaOne (pic) has done it again, winning the Best Local English Song award at the Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) held at the Putra World Trade Centre's Dewan Merdeka here on Sunday night.

Mikael Adam Lozach, or better known by his stage name SonaOne, took home the award for Firefly, a hip-hop track off his debut album Growing Up Sucks.

The song beat out other nominees Elvira Arul's Christmas In The Sun, Juwita Suwito's Just Like That, Daiyan Trisha's Stargazing and Vince Chong's Wonder.

"This is a win for hip-hop," the 28-year-old French-Malay artiste said in his acceptance speech.

He first won the same award in 2014 for his debut single No More. The song went on to win Best Song, becoming the first English song in AIM history to do so.

The AIM is known as the Malaysian equivalent of the Grammys.
