JB hospital fire: DPM visits family members and conveys condolences

JOHOR BARU: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has conveyed his condolences on behalf of the Federal Government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to the victims and families affected by the fire in Hospital Sultanah Aminah.

The Deputy Prime Minister said they were saddened by the incident.

He said the incident could have been avoided with the necessary maintenance and upgrades on the building structure and wiring system.

“However, this is not a time for us to point fingers and it is best to let the investigations go on first,” he said at the hospital’s mortuary after meeting family members of the dead on Tuesday.

Dr Ahmad Zahid also thanked early responders, such as the Fire and Rescue Department, police and hospital staff and medical personnel, who contributed to the rescue efforts.

A fire broke out at the hospital’s intensive care unit at around 9am on Tuesday.

Six people were reported dead from the incident.
