Police irked by orang asli barrier

GUA MUSANG: Police are irked by the unauthorised blockade set up by the orang asli villagers here as they too were barred entry.

District deputy police chief Deputy Supt Yap Sow Sing said he and 10 of his men were prevented from going beyond “Kampung Blockade” on Saturday at around 6pm.

“There were at least 200 orang asli there. I asked them politely to be let through but was refused,” he said.

DSP Yap said he had gone to the area with his men for an inspection and to ensure no untoward incident happened between the villagers and the loggers.

“We are disappointed as the villagers refused to negotiate with us.

“They were rude and prevented us from doing our job,” he said, adding that some of the villagers took pictures and videos of their presence.

DSP Yap said he did not wish to speculate but it could be that the villagers thought they were bogus cops.

He also said that investigations showed no shots were fired during Wednesday’s standoff between the villagers and the loggers.
