PETALING JAYA: The "grenade" that was spotted at a four-star hotel in Port Dickson was actually a lighter shaped like a grenade.
In a post on their official Facebook page, police said that Special Task Force on Organised Crime (Stafoc) had detained five Syrian tourists and seized the grenade replica during an operation in Cameron Highlands on Thursday.
It said the tourists were believed to have bought the "grenade" when they visited the Army Museum in Port Dickson.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar congratulated the team via Twitter.
“Tahniah STAFFOC @PDRMsia tkap 5 warga Syria di Cam H’lands. Rampas lighter (replica grenade) yg di lihat oleh Staff hotel di PD semlm.
(Congratulations Staffoc @PDRMsia for detaining five Syrian nationals. Seizing the lighter (grenade replica) that was seen by hotel staff in Port Dickson yesterday),” he tweeted.
It was reported that Negri Sembilan police were working with Bukit Aman to trace the whereabouts of a Syrian family after a grenade-like object was found in their room at a four-star hotel in Port Dickson.
A hotel staff, according to The Star report, found what looked like a hand grenade, kept under a pillow, in one of the connecting rooms the family had stayed for the night on Wednesday.
The family was in the process of checking out when a man came back to the room, took the "grenade" and rushed off.
